Here is an explanation of some of the terms you will come across when arranging your will:

 

  • Testator

This is the person making the will i.e. You.

 

  • Executor or Trustee

This is a person you are entrusting to carry out your wishes upon your death, you would normally have two or three of these and your spouse can automatically be one of these if you wish.

 

  • Beneficiary

Someone you want to inherit all or part of your estate on death

 

  • Guardian

Person you will want to look after your dependants in the event of your death.

 

  • Attorney

If you choose to set up a Lasting Power of Attorney then this is the person you will entrust to look after your affairs.
